المجلس الوطني للإعلام هو هيئة اتحادية مستقلة، تأسس عام 2006، يتمثل دوره في تطوير استراتيجية وطنية للنهوض بقطاع الإعلام في دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة وتعزيز صورتها الإيجابية، ومواكبة مكانتها المتميزة على مختلف الصعد بما يضمن تكامل الأدوار لتحقيق إعلام وطني مستنير مواكب لروح العصر، ومستند إلى ثوابت الدولة، وقادر على نشر رسالة الإمارات المبنية على قيم الاعتدال والوسطية والتسامح.
كما يقوم المجلس بإعداد الأنظمة والمعايير والأسس اللازمة، لعمل وترخيص واعتماد وسائل الإعلام والعاملين فيها، وكذلك إعداد الأنظمة والمعايير اللازمة لتنظيم الإعلام والنشر الإلكتروني، والتنسيق مع سلطات المناطق الحرة الإعلامية لوضع إطار تنظيمي للعلاقة بينها وبين المجلس، واقتراح مشاريع القوانين وإعداد الأنظمة اللازمة لتنظيم ممارسة الأنشطة الإعلامية، هذا بالإضافة إلى متابعة المحتوى الإعلامي بمختلف أشكاله التقليدية والرقمية.
كما يتولى المجلس، من خلال وكالة أنباء الإمارات التابعة له، تغطية كافة الفعاليات والأحداث السياسية والاجتماعية والثقافية والرياضية المحلية والخارجية ومتابعتها، وتوفير التغطية الإخبارية وتوزيعها على مختلف وسائل الإعلام المحلية والمشتركين من خارج الدولة، وبث أخبار الدولة باللغات العربية والإنجليزية والفرنسية اعتباراً من الساعة الثامنة صباحاً حتى الواحدة فجراً.

Who are we: National Media Council is a federal authority established in 2006. Its role is to develop a national strategy for the advancement of the media sector that is capable of strengthening the positive image of the UAE and keeping pace with its distinguished status at various levels. This is in addition to observing the media sector in the country to ensure complementarity of roles in order to nurture a national media that keeps up with the times, draws on the UAE’s principles and values, and ably disseminates its message, which is based on the principles of moderation, middle path and tolerance.
The Council prepares the regulations, criteria and fundamentals necessary for the licensing and accreditation of media and media professionals. The Council lays down the regulations and criteria necessary to regulate the media and online publishing. It also coordinates with the authorities in the media free zones to put in place a regulatory framework for organizing the relations between them and the Council. The Council also proposes laws and regulations necessary to oversee the practice of media profession.
The Council arranges, through the Emirates News Agency (WAM), media coverage and follow up for all the socio-political, cultural and sporting events at the local and international levels. It disseminates such news through the local media and its external partners. It transmits all the news about the country in Arabic, English and French from 8 am. to 1 am.
